All roads, trails, highways and back alley-ways lead to Tampa Florida for the coronation of Willard Mitt Romney as the official 2012 Republican Presidential candidate.  

His final push to the White House will actually begin in earnest on day-1 of the convention. And––remember you heard it here first–––"he will need to bathe 10x per day through Inaugural Day 2013... in bleach and Ajax soap to get rid of the stench and for what he will have to say and do to counter the onslaught of negativity needed to win this election".  

He can forget the gentleman's-rules-of-engagement customarily used in the political arena. Nope! He had better be prepared to engage in brass-knuckles-street-fighting where the last man standing takes it all!

President Barack Obama's team will indeed bring a gun to this knife fight.  And if Romney doesn't think that team Obama plans to do to him exactly what Touré  was directed to introduce to the general public on MSNBC last week... "Niggerize him" where he won't even recognize his former self when it's all over... then he is in for a new awakening.

Yes... the final slimy, sewage-filled distance to the house at 1600 Pennsylvania Ave. is ON!  

Romney would do himself, and the nation, a favor by putting his crisp, Oxford button-down shirt, every hair in place, blue-blood, all-American-boy image in a box for the next two months.  Yep! He should wrap his mind NOW around  becoming the punch-throwing, no holds barred, in-Yo-face, one-line-Zinger-delivering, take-no-prisoners, smack-down-Kings in the persons of Newt Gingrich and Donald Trump!  

Wink*Wink*: That's if he really plans to take back the White House... and save this nation!!!!

Let Newt Speak! Gingrich Needs Speaking Slot At GOP Confab

Say what you will about former Speaker of the House, and 2012 Presidential contender Newt Gingrich, he is one of the most brilliant minds of our times. 


His ability to frame the national political debate and articulate his key points in a simple, in-'yo-face conversation that even a political 'dummy' can understand, makes him a stand-out!  


It's true... Gingrich has been castigated by the main stream media for his brutal and frank attacks on President Obama's record and his policies. And, some have even gone so far as to call him a 'racist' for his shrewd double entendre label which continues to stick to President Barack Obama as America's first "food stamp President". 


That's all a part of the rough-n-tumble of American politics. But all-in-all... Speaker Gingrich has the spine to call-out dumb stuff for what it is... and he is not afraid to take on those tough issues that many politicians––for fear of being perceived as not being politically correct––shy away from dealing with.


Case in point. His recent public support of Sarah Palin as a  prime time speaker at the upcoming National Republican Convention, surely didn't gain him any brownie-points with the GOP old guard, who wishes she would go away. But he said it anyway. Good for him!


And to top that off... being the no-holds-barred 'Newt' that he is... he didn't stop there!  Gingrich went a bit further and has ticked off the Democrats big-time by declaring that choosing President Bill Clinton as a keynote speaker at the upcoming Democratic Convention would just further remind Americans:

IT APPEARS AS IF OBAMA IS NOT TAKING GOV. MITT ROMNEY'S JABS LYING DOWN!!!  (AND IT'S NOT EVEN JUNE YET...)

Presumptive GOP Presidential nominee, Gov. Mitt Romney, has seemingly decided to take those soft 'mittens' off and take it straight to President Obama mano e mano.  

Realizing that the John McCain "nice-guy-game-plan" was a boondoggle four years ago, Romney ain't making that mistake––taking a page from Robert Greene's "48 Laws of Power" rule book as it relates to his involvement in Bain Capital.  

Recognizing that President Obama's campaign strategy was to use Bain Capital's "blood-sucking-vampire-like" practices as a whipping stick to beat him over the head and discredit him as a greedy capitalist.  Well, that sneaky Mitt, during a recent interview on Fox and Friends, has just turned the tables on that strategy.  

Using similar talking points as he did against Speaker Newt Gingrich, when Gingrich ill-advisedly attacked the free market system––which ultimately derailed his presidential bid––Romney, on the Fox and Friends morning show, all but called the President a "dummy", and inferred that he, and Vice President Joe Biden, were a couple of lazy, financial neophytes. Ouch! 

Here is the exchange:

"There's no question that he's attacking capitalism, in part because I think he doesn't understand how the free economy works," Romney said in an appearance on the Fox TV's Fox & Friends. "He's never had job in the free economy, neither has Vice President Biden. They've spent their lives as either community organizers or member of the political class, and frankly the American people understand that free economy and free enterprise is tough - it's hard work."
 
Romney's remarks are particularly biting when combined with recent comments from the likes of Mayor Corey Booker, former Pennsylvania Governor Rendell, former Tennessee Congressman Harold Ford, Jr., and other Democratic leaders who support capitalism and seem to part with the Obama team's assault on it. 

Painting Romney as a 1%er ... and arousing the 99% in America who represent the "masses" against him in time for a win in November is a tall order for the Obama team.  

Well, oops... using Bain Capital as that vehicle, somehow just got derailed.

Basketball And Politics: It's Only But A Game UPDATE: GINGRICH SAYS WILL NOT BE ON ROMNEY TEAM

DOVER, Del. – Newt Gingrich said on Thursday he would “probably not” accept a Cabinet position under a Mitt Romney administration but would be happy to advise the former Massachusetts governor on policy.

Asked the question in an interview with local radio station WILM at the Hollywood Diner, Gingrich, one of three contenders left in the race for the GOP presidential nomination, said he wouldn’t be interested in joining likely nominee Romney’s Cabinet, but added—“not because I am opposed to Mitt.”

“Look, if the choice does end up being Romney versus [President] Obama, I can be very, very enthusiastic for Romney; that is a huge choice,” the former House speaker said. “But I had a very good life doing a lot of fun things: I’m a grandfather, I’ve got two grandchildren I want to spend time with, Callista has got me into being a really bad golfer. I would like to move up from bad to mediocre.”

That doesn’t mean Gingrich wants to disappear completely. He said he would be “very happy to be an adviser. Once you have learned the correlation between basketball and politics you will have mastered one of life's complicated mysteries... and will be the better for it.  

Many a die-hard basketball fan believes in playing hard... and playing to win.  This same rule can also be applied to many staunch political supporters who pick their candidates early and are committed to fight to the end for a victory.

That explains why so many voters are disappointed and seething following this past weekend's semi-concession by Newt Gingrich.  

During a recent FoxNews interview, Speaker Newt Gingrich all-but conceded the GOP nomination to Governor Mitt Romney and agreed to forge an alliance with him... to let by-gones be by-gones, and call a truce from the war of words that has inundated the airwaves for the past several months.

Regarded as one of the star players in the GOP field, Gingrich––who is by far the most intellectually superior of all candidates running in this year's primary–– has said to his fans repeatedly that he was in the 'game' all the way through the Convention in Tampa. 

So... needless to say it caught many by surprise when he appeared to concede, and saying he would throw his support behind the front-runner if Romney secured the required delegates for the nomination?  What?!?!? 

As mean, negative and down-right nasty as Mitt has been toward him, and the other candidates this entire primary race... how could Gingrich support Romney should he weasel and cut-throat his way to the nomination?  

Some say Newt's comments reflect him as the patriot he is and has always been. While others say he's vying for 'cool points' that could possibly be leveraged into an appointment in the new administration... or a post in the future White House. 

Whatever!  But this one thing is crystal clear in light of all that has transpired of late: in politics... just like in the game of basketball, the opposing teams are rude to each other... they verbally taunt, trash-talk, throw elbows and knock each other around on the court for the duration of the game and in front of their committed fans/voters––who often take seriously these emotional shenanigans.  

Do the players not understand that it becomes personal to many of the fans/voters who sometime remain furious-angry-vexed-irked-fire.hot.mad, vowing  NEVER to attend another basketball game and even pledging to remain on the sidelines or stay at home and not vote in the Fall because they feel betrayed?

Well...  here is some advice to the zealous fans and the young, newly active GOP stalwarts: know this about basketball and politics... both are just sports, purposely hyped-up by the opposing teams to keep the masses/fans involved. 

When it's all said and done, and at the end of regulation play... the players/the candidates are good pals.  They will   slap each other on the butts, say what a 'good game' each played, get their checks and go to the house. 

Therefore, it would behoove all of us grudge-holding fans/voters to understand the art and the fundamentals of how basketball and politics are played... for our own good and the good of the country. 

But always, always remember:  Basketball and politics: IT'S ONLY BUT A GAME... So let the games begin!

Oh NO! Gingrich Unleashes Vince Haley As New Campaign Chair

As usual, the main stream media spends its time parroting presidential aspirant, Speaker Newt Gingrich's, recent announcement to reduce his campaign staff by one-third and narrow his focus on those goals which he hopes will carry him on to the GOP Convention in Tampa in August.  But because many of today's journalists are so lazy and don't know how to go a step further ... they've missed the huge story.

So, here is the big news in this whole transition: who Newt tapped as the new man in charge of the Gingrich 2012 election ship, Vince Haley––who replaces Michael Krull. 

Now believe me, Haley, is a piece of work! 

Best known for his keen ability to "think outside the Washington, D.C. beltway box" and... for not being afraid to verbalize and implement his unconventional–– often radical ideas––Haley, without a doubt was the quiet boots-on-the-ground, mastermind of Gingrich's South Carolina primary win. 

No one in America (including former community organizer, Barack H. Obama, nor Karl Rove of the Bush administration) does grassroots strategising as effectively as Vince Haley. Don't let the youth of Haley fool you... he is a prolific writer and one of the best opposition researchers in politics today.  

His uncanny ability to draft strategic plans that include layers-upon-layers of variables and options, and also his nonchalant style of incorporating matrixes of plans A's and B's within any given strategic plan... makes him a force to be reckoned with.  

Haley has long been considered one of Newt's coveted secret weapons. Cloaked in an unassuming, boy-next-door persona, Vince Haley's behind-the-scenes hardball tactics have disarmed many in the political field... often catching off-guard those who have discounted his abilities. Consequently, by the time it has been realized that he has seized control of the political debate and has forever altered the trajectory of the moment  ... it's too late! 

So... for Gingrich to unleash Haley at this stage of the political process indicates Newt has only just begun to fight.

Indeed, young Haley is one to watch... as he is sure to bring his signature "David & Goliath, hit-'em-and-kill-'em" political game plan that presents meaningful, thought-provoking issues which are sure to have Americans' tongues wagging. He has the skills to take Gingrich's flailing campaign to a whole new level, and finally, he will offer hard-hitting push backs, unlike Senator John McCain's wimpy responses back in 2008, to assure the American public that the truth gets out.  

Nope... Haley will research President Obama's talking points and policies to the 'empth' degree for accuracy and take it straight to the President in a way that won't be pretty!

This Is A Political Civil War––Anyway You Slice it!

Governor Sarah Palin, Speaker Newt Gingrich and many Tea Party members are of the belief that a protracted GOP Presidential primary is a good vetting exercise, and that such an exercise only strengthens whoever the potential GOP nominee will be for the Fall.  

But that does not seem to be how long-time establishment Republicans, such as former Mississippi Governor Haley Barbour and D.C. pundit, Karl Rove view it. Both men recently took to the national news shows to voice their opposition to the negative tone and long, drawn out battle of this year's Republican primary.

So... which side is right? Would Barbour, Rove and company rather wait until the Fall and allow President Obama's savvy opposition research team to present to the general public all the background information that is currently bombarding the airwaves on Mitt, Newt, Rick or Ron (whichever should win the nomination)?


Or is Sarah Palin's position the right one: encouraging the fight to continue so that all the voters in all the States get an opportunity to participate in this democratic process? 


For the record... both sides have merit in their arguments. 

But, as I see it, there is a bigger tussle going on as well... a fight for the soul and direction of the Republican Party and which of these sides will be in charge going forward.  And that battle doesn't appear as if it is going to be over anytime soon!

The GOP battle lines that are being drawn are clear to me: they are between rich, money-having, elite Republicans––that Romney represents... versus the working class, poor, grassroots Republicans––that Palin/Gingrich relate more to.

If the rich Republicans can shut down the "negative" primary wars at this juncture, then their candidate, Mitt Romney, moonwalks to the nomination.  

But... if the poor/regular Republicans can hang on and allow the primary process to continue through the Convention in Florida, there is a big chance that they will have a majority at the table and can force a brokered convention––which will open the door for a conservative-favorite such as Palin or another Tea Party candidate to be victorious.


Rich/poor... elite/grassroots... This is a political civil war anyway to slice it!!

Mississippi and Alabama: A MUST for Gingrich or Santorum!

The South has always been a must-win for any GOP presidential contender.

But this year it is especially critical for Speaker Newt Gingrich and Senator Rick Santorum to carry the southern states in order to amass enough delegates to go forward to the 2012 nomination in Tampa, in hopes of a face-off against President Barack Obama in November. 

As I said in the above quote in the Memphis Commercial Appeal newspaper, Mississippi and Alabama primaries are 'do or die' contests for both candidates. 

It's true that Governor Mitt Romney currently leads in delegates, but with MS, AL and Texas primaries on the horizon, those numbers could change the landscape significantly.  And the way I see it... it's going to come down to the Evangelicals and Christian conservative voters this year. No doubt about it!

Rush Was Wrong! UPDATE: AOL DROPS RUSH...

The controversy surrounding Radio talk show host Rush Limbaugh now enters another week... a week that may be critical to the  nationally syndicated shows survivability.  

Yes... a 7th advertiser has now canceled sponsorship on the show and Limbaugh's apology may not be enough to stave-off what appears to be a major money hemorrhage!

While David Frum did an excellent job framing the argument in a recent CNN opinion piece... the real fact of the matter is Rush was wrong!

It is not funny, not cute, nor is it a laughing matter how women are increasingly being verbally assaulted in this country and It.MUST.Stop!  Rush saying he was just "joking" is not going to cut it.  Calling any woman a slut, the "B" word, a whore or any such derogative term... has no place in the public forum.

Rush knows the rules.  And this time, he went too far and crossed the line.  And so, his advertisers are right in doing what 3 of the four Republican candidates should also be doing––letting it be known that this type of behavior is not acceptable and will not be tolerated. PERIOD!

President Barack Obama was spot-on in coming out to repudiate Rush for this assaultive language.  Any man with daughters, a wife, nieces, a mom, or a girlfriend should be offended by such crude comments... and be man enough to say so!

So what are you waiting for Newt, Mitt and Rick? Denounce Rush Limbaugh for this one, as the backlash from women voters may come back to bite you later.

Burning Down The White House Is Not A Joke!

When those in the Islamic community make a "threat"... unlike many of us in the West... they generally mean what they say and are committed to carry out their threats by-any-means-necessary.

That is why this latest Islamic threat to "burn down the White House" as compensation for the Koran burnings by U.S. troops in Afghanistan last week, should not be taken lightly by Americans.

Nation of Islam leader, Minister Louis Farrakhan, seemed to be channeling this threat during his recent comments at the Nation of Islam's Annual Founder's Day, in  which he suggested an assassination plot against Obama might involve a "patsy," a person set up to take the blame for a broader conspiracy.

"I believe they want a Muslim to kill President Obama," Minister Farrakhan said.   [www.chicagotribune.com]

Words have meanings! And in these very tense and volatile times in America, Israel, Iran, and the entire Middle East, threatening to burn down the White House is not a joking matter. 

I admit, I don't agree with many of the policies of this President and his Administration, and... would love to see my personal friend, Speaker Newt Gingrich––yes even with all his imperfections–– sworn in as the 45th President of the United States in 2013.  But, there are some threats that cannot be allowed to stand.  And threatening to burn down the people's house...the White House or threatening to assassinate the President of the United States... whoever he or she is... crosses the line for me! 


So, come on President Obama.  Stop apologizing and stand up to those who wish to do us––and YOU–– serious harm. These people are NOT playing.

President Obama needs to call one of those press conferences (post haste), and in no uncertain terms say something to the effect that if anything happens to the people's White House while he is President:

"We're gonna hunt you down"... and "smoke them out of their holes".  [President George W. Bush]

And that conversation needs to happen within the next few days!  Because  Americans will not tolerate outside forces threatening us... and will not tolerate a leader who allows us to be threatened without rebuttal and follow through retaliation.  Get on your game, Mr. Obama!

 

 

Michigan Leaning Towards Santorum? What?!?

As Michiganders search for the "right" GOP contender to face-off against President Barack Obama this coming November... home grown son, Mitt Romney, is facing an uphill battle. Even with the endorsement of newly elected Republican Governor Rick Snyder, Mitt Romney's support in his home state is mediocre––to say the least. 

Having been on-the-ground myself for the past few days, touring different cities throughout the Southwest Michigan region... I have not seen the level of enthusiasm for Romney that generally surrounds that of a front-runner.  And... with the state's primary election approximately a week away, on February 28th, a fever pitch of support for Romney's JUST.NOT.THERE!

With all the media hype that Romney is the only Republican to beat Obama is proving to be exactly what it is: a lame-stream-media-LIE.  

If I were to make a prediction, I would say the probability of Senator Rick Santorum winning all the marbles in the Michigan contest is extremely high.  And... that outcome would send shock waves to the GOP establishment and would put a Romney nomination in serious doubt.  (Remember, if Vice President Al Gore had won his home state of Tennessee in 2000, US history would have been a lot different).

No... the way I see it, this GOP primary is wide-open.  Look out for Gingrich, Paul, and who knows... even Sarah Palin to overtake Romney by the time the big dance happens in Tampa this summer.  Right now, it's anybody's ball game.

Gov. Romney: Cease with your character assassination!

If the only playbook/path to the oval office Presidential hopeful, Mitt Romney, has is character assassination of his fellow GOP rivals... then he needs to pack-up-his-tent and go home NOW.  Does he really think the die-hard supporters of those Republican candidates [Palin, Cain, Gingrich, Perry, Bachman, and Huntsman] that he, and his team, have maligned, attacked, smeared, and just out right desecrated, will enthusiastically go knock on doors and tell their family, and friends, to go vote for him this Fall?  I mean... REALLY... does he???  

After getting the stuffing kicked out of him in Missouri, Minnesota and Colorado during those State's recent caucuses, Romney has now set his sights on the new target: Senator Rick Santorum.

What? Does he not have a "track record" he can run on? Can he not articulate to the voting public his five-step or 10-step plan to turn this nation around... should he be elected?  Is his only game plan that of scorched-earth, leave no-man-standing tactics?  Well, as his favorable ratings continue plummeting, maybe he will realize that he's turning the masses off with that strategy.

In case his kitchen cabinet, political advisers haven't told him... the American people want to know what he will do to jump-start this economy? How he plans to massage the disgruntled business leaders... and also bring small business owners to the table to create some JOBS in America?  What is his position on Obamacare and what specifically he will do to repeal it––beginning day One!?!  

We in the heartland and bread-basket towns of this nation don't give a care about who Herman Cain supposedly 'hit on' or made a pass at, or whether Newt Gingrich got a check 15 years ago from Fannie Mae, Freddie Mac, or Jimmy Sue or Timmy Lee either for that matter.  Tell us what you are going to do!!

Stop tearing other folks down and... call off his malignant Super-Pac.  For the next few months, he needs to spend this valuable time on the national stage telling the voters what HE will do to help us GET.THIS.NATION.BACK.ON.TRACK. PERIOD!!

So, to Governor Romney, if you want to be the big man in hopes of leading this great nation, then demonstrate that behavior in your political dealings. Cease with your character assassination!

Hats Off To Romney: But It Ain't Over Yet!

The age old adage: "it ain't over 'til the fat lady sings" surely applies to the 2012 GOP primaries.  With four states having successfully completed the primary process, and 46 more states yet on deck...we still have a very long way to go. 

The magic number for any of the candidates to clinch the title as Republican front runner is 1,144 delegates.  Of the top three contenders Senator Rick Santorum, by winning Iowa has racked up 14, Speaker Newt Gingrich who soundly took South Carolina, amassed a total of 26, and Governor Mitt Romney, securing both Florida and New Hampshire has a delegate total of approximately 87.        See chart

Now... with only a measly 10% of the total electorate having voted... the media is calling for the candidates to "piss-on-the-fire-and-call-it-hunt" already?   NOT!  

These GOP boys are only four states into the game, and there is already talk by GOP pundits to  "quit and coalesce behind one candidate?" Give.Me.A.Break!

Governor Mitt Romney

Well said Romney!  Indeed the nomination process thus far has been vitriolic and nasty––that's the nature of the sport.  But, if you boys can't handle the ruff-and-tumble of these brutal primaries... you really won't be able to stand the "Chicago street, 'Hood smack-down" that President Barack Obama is planning for the ultimate winner come Fall.  


As my old grandmama used to say: "...if you want to be tough, you must fall down a few times, get hurt, dust yourself off and get back in the game!"  

I say let the vetting stage continue and allow these contests to go onto Nevada next week and Super Tuesday next month––where approximately 400+ delegates are on the table for the taking.

So, "fat-lady", stay in your dressing room a little while longer. We'll call you when we're ready. But... it ain't over yet!


UPDATE:  Governor Mitt Romney makes the Occupy Wall Street's cause today one of the major talking points in the 2012 election.  Fresh off his win in Florida and during a Wednesday morning interview he made this comment:

“I’m not concerned about the very poor, we have a safety net there,” Mr Romney said, adding: “If it needs repair, I’ll fix it.”

 Uh...Governor... those kinds of incendiary comments will NOT help your effort in the Fall.  I need to tell the "fat lady" she can go a take a nap.  This is going to be a long, hot, summer!

GOP: Let's Keep This Ball A 'Rollin!

Can you believe, my old blog site: vberryhill-soulvoice.blogspot.com has disappeared from the world wide web. Poof...Gone!  But no need for alarm. My SOUL VOICEWill.Not.Be.Silenced!!!  Please note my new blog website Vivian Berryhill Soul Voice. Tell others that I may have a new site look, but I have not changed. I will still post in-your-face commentary regarding Democrats, Republicans, Blacks, Whites, Latinos... whoever. 

Now, we have a critical election about to take place in this country.  As a matter of fact, this election is probably the most important one of our time, and we need all voices making the case leading up to November 2012.  

The Florida Republican Primary is scheduled for tomorrow.  The stakes are high––as this is a winner takes all primary.  I don't know Governor Mitt Romney... but I do know Speaker Newt Gingrich, personally.  He is a long-time friend. And, where I come from, friendships matter!

Voters in Florida have a chance to keep this primary battle alive.  A vote for Newt extends the democratic process and keeps the vetting of the candidates: Romney, Santorum, Paul and Gingrich, as an option for future voters in the South, the West, the Mid-West––who deserve to have our votes registered as well. 

Say what you will about Vice Presidential candidate Sarah Palin, who... I'm not a fan of...but she made a valid point recently on Fox News when she said:

"if for no other reason, rage against the machine, vote for Newt; annoy a liberal, vote Newt. Keep this vetting process going, keep the debate going".

Old Sarah may not have said this as eloquently as some others might have, but she is right on the money!  We have only had three... "3"... states to participate in this 2012 primary process.  And, we have had three different winners in each contest.  If the "powers that be" are allowed to crown Governor Romney the 2012 nominee before the South gets its say during Super Tuesday, then America will be no better than any other third world, dictator-controlled country.

So, Republicans in Florida, the ball is in your court.  Get out and vote tomorrow for Newt and let's keep this ball a rollin!
